slop of the line at two points (-1,-4) and (2,3)

Postby Galaxy » Tue 12 April, 2011 18:03

How to find slope of the line at two points (-1,-4) and (2,3) ?

the formula for slope m is:
`m=(y_2-y1)/(x_2-x_1)`

In our points P1=(-1,-4) and P2=(2,3) the first values inside parenthesis are x and the second are y in the form (x,y). So (-1,-4) -1 is x and -4 is y
let's name them as we wish. The important point is to keep the pair together.

`x_1=2` and `y_1=3`

`x_2=-1` and `y_2=-4`

sub in the values in our formula `m=(y_2-y1)/(x_2-x_1)`
`m=(-4-3)/(-1-2)=(-7)/-3=7/3`

so the slope of the line `m=7/3`
